Sanofi-aventis to launch cancer medicine

LAHORE (August 12 2007): Sanofi-aventis (Pakistan) is launching its
globally renowned cytotoxic agent, Eloxatin (oxaliplatin), to treat
colorectal cancer here on Sunday. Sanofi-aventis is one the world's
leading pharmaceutical companies, ranking number-one in Europe.
Backed by a world-class R&D organisation, Sanofi-aventis is
developing leading positions in seven major therapeutic areas such
as oncology, cardiovascular, thrombosis, metabolic diseases, central
nervous system, internal medicine and vaccines.
Presentations, including updates on Eloxatin and its role in the
routine treatment of colorectal cancer, relevant local data and
challenging case studies will be held.
"Eloxatin is considered the standard of care for the treatment of
early stage colon cancer, after surgery. The six year survival
analysis of the landmark Mosaic trial demonstrated that stage-III
colon cancer patients treated with Eloxatin in combination with 5-
FU/LV had a significant 20 percent reduction in the risk of
mortality than those treated with 5-FU/LV alone."
A company spokesperson said here on Saturday. Global Medical

Paris, Dr Faisal Mehmud will also speak in the launching ceremony.
